Mrs. Garton’s 5th grade science classes have been learning about physical and chemical changes in matter. Some chemical changes involve the reorganization of molecules into a new form, where the chemical and physical properties of the final product are nothing like the original components. In this activity, students created their own simple polymer-like substance using some common household chemicals. During the reaction, the molecules underwent a major reorganization, producing a substance with some very unusual characteristics!
