It started small back in the 60’s then grew to one of the biggest celebrations of its kind in the world. Officials have been interviewed by radio and television stations around the world. It is even on the list of “100 Things You Need to Do Before You Die”.
Every year, the last full weekend in April makes Mangum one of the largest communities in the state as up to 30,000 people make their way to our community to see the snakes, shop for bargains, eat the food and enjoy some good family entertainment.
The first year of its existence it lost money. The next year they borrowed money and ended the celebration $50 in the black. That’s not much, but it gave the original founders just enough spark to make things bigger and better.
