Three Greer County teams advanced to the next level following last week’s tournament action.
The Mangum Lady Tigers earned a spot for the 10th consecutive year in the State Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament as Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
The #3 Lady Tigers, with a record of 32-6 earned the spot after being crowned Regional Runner-Up in play last Thursday at Weatherford.
Mangum dominated offensively this year, scoring 492 runs which ties a record set by the 2004 team that won 39 games. They averaged just under 13 runs per game this season and have been especially good at hitting the long ball.
Mangum met Dale in the first round of the State Tournament and fell behind 9-4 after one inning of play. Dale scored 5 runs in the top of the 2nd, but Mangum answered with 4 in the bottom of the inning to trail 14-8.
Dale continued to pound the ball, scoring 7 in the 3rd. Mangum held Dale without a run the remainder of the game, but struggled on offence, managing just 3 more runs in the contest, losing 21-11.
The undefeated Granite Panthers secured another trip to the State Baseball Tournament in Oklahoma City by winning their Regional Tournament. They defeated Olustee in their first game on Thursday. Then they faced Chattanooga and won the second game. On Friday night they faced Chattanooga again nn
