The 78th Annual Mangum Mounties Rodeo and the Wild West Days brought hundreds of folks to town to visit, enjoy great entertainment and to enjoy the oldest rodeo in the state of Oklahoma.
Things kicked off early Saturday with the Old Greer County Western Heritage Association fixing an old fashioned chuck wagon breakfast. Members of the association scrambled eggs and bacon, made homemade biscuits in a kettle and served it up buffet style.
After breakfast the music started with local talent being used to entertain the crowd as they awaited the beginning of the fiddlers contest.
This years fiddlers contest was sponsored by the Greer County Chamber of Commerce and the Greer County Economic Trust which donated the prize money for the event. There were two categories with the youngest age group being won by Stockton Shannon, age 8 of Northfield, Texas. The Adult division had a pretty good age range from teenagers to older men who prefer to not tell their age. The adult division was won by Michael Thompson, 14 of Rose, Oklahoma. 2nd place was Douglas Thompson, also of Rose, Oklahoma. 3rd place went to Hallie Milner, 16, of Reydon, Oklahoma and 4th place was won by our own Jack Drury of Mangum.
After the contest winners were announced all the fiddlers joined together to play the old western song “Faded Love”.
While the entertainment continued visitors had the opportunity to visit the arts and crafts booths which were set up on the courthouse lawn, or visit the quilt show which was held inside the historic Greer County Courthouse.
